𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐁𝐈𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐌𝐍𝐒 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐍 𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐔 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐋, 𝟐𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓: The Government of the Republic of The Gambia condemns the military coup d’etat in the Republic of Guinea Bissau. This unconstitutional taking over of power is an outright assault on the democratic values cherished by the people of Guinea Bissau and negatively affect the electoral process following the peaceful conduct of the Presidential and Legislative elections on 23rd November 2025. The Government of The Gambia expresses profound shock and deep concern over this attempt to overturn the will of the people. The Gambia considers this action a blatant violation of shared democratic principles and an unfortunate setback to the hard-earned progress made by the government and people of Guinea Bissau and the ECOWAS region in democracy and constitutional rule. The Gambia, therefore, calls for the immediate restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau and urges all stakeholders to remain calm, exercise maximum restraint, respect the democratic process and stand firm together for peace and unity, allowing the people’s choice and will to guide the nation’s future. Furthermore, the Government of The Gambia calls for the security and fundamental rights of all citizens and foreign nationals in Guinea Bissau, including ECOWAS Election Observers and officials be safeguarded and guaranteed. The Government and people of the Republic of The Gambia continue to stand in solidarity with Guinea Bissau during this difficult times and pray that Allah The Almighty bless the efforts being made to bring peace to this great country. Below is the official statement of The Honorable Minister, His Excellency Mr. Sering Modou Njie, at the 7th AU–EU Summit Round Table on “Peace, Security and Governance,” held on 24th November 2025 in Luanda, Angola Your Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union Your Excellences Heads of States & Governments, Excellency Mr. António Costa, President of the European Council Excellency Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission Co-chairs Heads of delegation Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen   On behalf of His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the People of the Republic of The Gambia, I wish to express our profound gratitude to His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, as well as to the Government and the brotherly People of Angola, for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements accorded to my delegation since our arrival in this beautiful city of Luanda. It is an honour for The Gambia to participate in this important AU–EU Summit. We commend the African Union and the European Union for convening us under the timely and urgent theme: Peace, Security and Governance. We also thank the co-chairs and panelists for their valuable insights. Excellencies, Our two continents continue to face complex and interconnected challenges rising conflict dynamics, governance stresses, climate shocks, and socio-economic pressures that particularly affect our youth. These realities require an integrated approach that recognizes the inseparable link between peace, security, and good governance. For The Gambia, this theme reflects our own national journey of the past eight years a journey of democratic consolidation, institutional rebuilding, and renewed public confidence. As a country that has undergone a democratic transition, we appreciate the delicate nature of reforms and the partnerships required to sustain them. We continue to prioritize: Deepening democratic reforms and institutional strengthening; Advancing transitional         justice   and        national          reconciliation; Accelerating security sector reform; Enhancing border management and early warning systems; And investing in youth empowerment and resilience. We remain grateful for the continued support of the European Union and other partners whose cooperation has significantly contributed to our stability and progress. This Summit offers an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to peace. The recent steps toward sustainable financing for AU-led peace support operations, including through UN mechanisms, are encouraging. We urge continued AU–EU collaboration to ensure predictable support for African- owned peace initiatives. The situation in the Sahel remains a shared concern. Stability in this region is vital for The Gambia. We encourage constructive engagement, inclusive dialogue, and collective approaches that help restore trust and reinforce regional mechanisms. Excellencies, Security responses must go hand in hand with socio-economic investments. We see great value in AU–EU cooperation on youth employment, climate adaptation, local governance strengthening, and support for women’s leadership in peacebuilding. Migration, too, must be addressed cooperatively, with dignity and shared responsibility. As a committed member of ECOWAS and the African Union, The Gambia will continue to support multilateralism, preventive diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Our foreign policy remains anchored in constructive engagement and respect for international law. Africa’s peace and stability are global public goods. Our destinies are interlinked, and our partnership must remain rooted in mutual respect and shared ambition. 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐋, 𝟏𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓: The Republic of The Gambia is actively engaging in the third Intergovernmental Expert Group Meeting on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Programme of Action (POA) 2026 to 2035, which commenced today at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is expected to last until 20th November 2025. Ms. Fatou Kinneh Jobe, Permanent Secretary II of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, led the Gambian delegation, alongside other senior government officials. In her remarks, PS Jobe commended the OIC General Secretariat and Member States for developing an ambitious and comprehensive plan for the next 10 years. “The Draft Programme of Action embodies our collective hopes for peace, justice, prosperity, and solidarity throughout the Muslim Ummah,” stated PS Jobe. “It covers key issues including Palestine, peace and security, efforts to combat Islamophobia, human rights, socio-economic development, and institutional reform.” The Permanent Secretary also welcomed the POA’s focus on poverty reduction, trade, health, education, youth and women’s empowerment, and climate resilience, noting that these are crucial for a stable and prosperous Ummah. To enhance the impact and ensure the successful implementation of the POA, The Gambia proposed key recommendations: establishing transparent implementation mechanisms, strengthening support for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and improving coordination among OIC institutions. The meeting brought together experts and senior officials from OIC Member States to finalise the draft Programme of Action, which is expected to guide the OIC development agenda for the period 2026 to 2035.

In his statement, the Hon. Minister highlighted the urgent need for renewed multilateral cooperation amid global uncertainties marked by conflicts, climate crises, and widening inequalities. He emphasized that strengthening global solidarity and shared responsibility is essential to address poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion. “We must forge a new global consensus that unites us behind inclusive and sustainable development one rooted in equity, accountability, and shared prosperity,” Minister Njie stated. The Minister reaffirmed The Gambia’s dedication to social development, democratic governance, and inclusive economic growth, with a focus on empowering women and youth, eradicating poverty, and promoting enduring peace. Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, H.E. Sering Modou Njie, delivered a statement during a Roundtable Discussion on Strengthening the Pillars of Social Development: Poverty Eradication, Full and Productive Employment and Decent Work for All, and Social Inclusion. In his address, Minister Njie underscored the urgent need for collective global action to tackle poverty, unemployment, and inequality, which continue to impede sustainable socio-economic progress worldwide. He highlighted The Gambia’s commitment to integrated and inclusive policy solutions anchored in equality, social justice, and solidarity emphasizing the importance of decent work, particularly for youth and women, as well as resilience-building and inclusive growth. 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐋, 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, on behalf of the Government and people of The Gambia, strongly condemns the recent Israeli airstrikes on the State of Qatar, which resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and heightened insecurity in the Gulf region. The Gambia views this attack as a violation of international law, the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, and the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Such actions within a sovereign state by another sovereign state undermine peace and security in the Middle East and beyond. The Government of The Gambia expresses its deepest solidarity with the leadership, Government, and people of Qatar during this difficult time. The Gambia stands firmly with Qatar in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. E. the Secretary-General of the OIC. Foreign Minister Njie reaffirmed The Gambia’s unwavering commitment to further deepening the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, anchored on shared faith and fraternity. He expressed profound appreciation to the Kingdom for its pivotal support towards The Gambia’s successful hosting of the 15th OIC Summit and acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s leading role in supporting the country’s national development initiatives through the Saudi Fund for Development, BADEA, and the Islamic Development Bank. Minister Njie also commended the Kingdom’s excellent leadership in championing the Palestinian cause, particularly its recent co-chairing of the UN Conference on the Two-State Solution. He warmly welcomed the Kingdom’s decision to establish a Resident Embassy in Banjul and reiterated The Gambia’s readiness to facilitate its formal opening. He underscored the close coordination between The Gambia, as Chair of the 15th OIC Summit, and Türkiye, as Chair of the 51st Session of the CFM. Minister Njie acknowledged with gratitude Türkiye’s recent pledge of USD 200,000 to support The Gambia’s legal proceedings against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice concerning the plight of the Rohingya people. They exchanged views on the humanitarian and legal aspects of the Rohingya case, agreeing to continue the joint resource mobilisation for the proceedings at the ICJ. Both sides also decided to convene the next round of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Consultations in Dhaka at a mutually convenient date. Foreign Minister Njie further informed of his intention to visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh, reaffirming The Gambia’s steadfast commitment to seeking justice for the Rohingya people. The two sides discussed the potential for enhanced collaboration in trade, tourism, energy, and investment, agreeing to task their respective teams to finalize bilateral agreements ahead of the 52nd CFM in Baghdad next year. Press Release- Successful Repatriation of Gambians Following the Eruption of Conflict in Sudan

The Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad wishes to inform the general public that on Wednesday 10th May 2023, 57 Gambian citizens (56 students and one professional football player) arrived in Banjul as part of the sixty-six (66) Gambians that were successfully repatriated from Sudan to Jeddah, following the eruption of fighting in the capital, Khartoum, in mid-April. On receiving the returnees at the Ministry on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mamadou Tangara, the Permanent Secretary I, Ambassador Lang Yabou, thanked Almighty Allah for making it possible to safely evacuate all Gambian citizens from Sudan. He welcomed the students home and advised them to remain strong. “Moving forward, take this development as a step in your life and career. It is not the end and you must continue to have hope and belief that, after this experience, you would emerge stronger. Everything in life happens for a reason and as people with faith, we must always remain strong in every situation that we find ourselves in.” “The Government is aware that some of you have very short time left to finish your studies and some have couple of years left. In recognition of this, His Excellency, the President has given approval for MOFA to work with you and all stakeholders to find solutions that would enable you to complete your studies and MOFA would work with you to explore all possibilities both in the country and outside,” posited Ambassador Yabou. Permanent Secretary Yabou on behalf of the Hon. Minister and the entire staff of MOFA, extended heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency the President of the Republic and the entire Cabinet, the Government and the People of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Chief of Staff to the President, the Director General SIS and their overseas partners, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, MOFA Staff,  Members of the National Coordination Mechanism on Migration,  H.E Ambassador Omar G. Sallah and Team in Riyadh, Charge D’Affaires Mr. Burama Sanneh and Team at the Consulate General in Jeddah, Dr. Aboubaccarr Jeng, a Gambian working with the UN and his wife, the Executive of the Student Association in the Sudan, Gambian Missions in Riyadh, New York, Dakar, France, Addis, etc, IOM, Red Cross, the Media and the entire Gambian population especially the families of the affected persons for their patience during a difficult period. Mr. Burama Sanneh, Charge D’Affaires, Consulate General of The Gambia in Jeddah who accompanied the students to Banjul and Representatives of the Student Association also spoke during the gathering, expressing their gratitude to His Excellency, the President, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of The Gambia in Jeddah and the entire Government and People of The Gambia. Each student was given a token amount by the Ministry to serve as transport fares to help them get to their respective homes. On the 15th April 2023, fighting erupted in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, between regular Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). On Sunday 16th April, contacts were established between the 59 (7 females, 52 males) Gambian students at the International University of Africa in Khartoum and various Gambian authorities following which, a comprehensive list was provided to the Consulate General in Jeddah and the Ministry. The same Sunday 16th April, engagements started between the Office of the President, MOFA and the SIS and in the evening, MOFA issued a Press Release conveying Government’s position which includes expressing serious concerns, calling for an immediate ceasefire, cessation of hostilities, establishment of a humanitarian corridor and urging all the parties to engage in inclusive political dialogue to address their grievances as well as called on all Gambians home and in Sudan to remain calm as Government undertakes the necessary steps to assist its nationals within the conflict zone in the Sudan. In the morning of Monday 17th April, MOFA contacted a number of The Gambia’s partners and friends to seek for evacuation help. On the 25th April, Gambians were evacuated by bus from Khartoum to Port Sudan and on the 27th April, they were transported from Port Sudan by the Saudi Royal Navy to Jeddah where they were hosted in Habitat Hotel prior to their departure for Banjul on Monday 8th May 2023. The occasion was also witnessed by Ambassador Habib T.B. Jarra, Permanent Secretary II, Directors, a cross section of MOFA staff and moderated by Mrs. Fatou Njie, Director, Asian Affairs Directorate.
