𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐔𝐍 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐋, 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad is pleased to announce that the Permanent Mission of the Republic of The Gambia to the United Nations has achieved a historic milestone at UN Headquarters in New York. Earlier this year, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, H.E. Lamin B. Dibba, was elected by UN Member States to serve as Chair of the Second Committee for the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Second Committee is one of the UN General Assembly’s six main committees, which plays a pivotal role for developing countries. It addresses critical economic and financial issues, including sustainable development, poverty eradication, climate action, international tax cooperation, and other priorities central to the 2030 Agenda. It also serves as a key platform through which the Global South articulates shared concerns and solutions on global development challenges. As the Chair of this committee, Ambassador Dibba led the Bureau and steered the Committee’s work with diligence and poise, ensuring that deliberations progressed efficiently despite complex negotiations. He worked closely with the Committee’s Vice Chairs Mr. Andreas Pita Naputi (Peru), Ms. Jenni Mikkola (Finland), and Ms. Weronika Garbacz (Poland) and Rapporteur Mr. Javad Momeni (Iran). He was also ably supported by the Mission’s Second Committee Expert, Ms. Binta Jeng. Throughout the session, the Committee undertook extensive and high-level discussions on issues of particular importance to developing nations. Debates focused on global taxation frameworks, sovereign debt challenges, international trade, illicit financial flows, and the intersection of debt, sustainable development, and environmental sustainability. Member States also examined strategies to address poverty and inequality, enhance food and nutrition security, and support countries in special situations. The Committee’s main session, which began in October and spanned for two months, officially concluded on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, culminating in the adoption of 41 draft resolutions and 2 draft decisions. Ambassador Dibba will continue to lead the Committee’s work until July 2026. H.E. Lamin B. The equipment comprising of conference microphones, printers, tablets, conference cameras, smart whiteboards, green screens, ERMS scanners, tool kits, a teleprompter, laptops, desktops, an advanced projector, sound systems, and large-format Canon printers, among other essential equipment, which was officially handed over by Mr. Zhao Shangsen, Deputy Head of Mission , and received by the Permanent Secretary II of the Ministry, Ms. Fatou Kinneh Jobe at the Embassy of People’s Republic of China. In her address, Permanent Secretary Jobe expressed profound appreciation to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China for the generous and timely contribution. She underscored that the equipment will significantly strengthen the Ministry’s Communication Unit, enhance public diplomacy, and improve the management and dissemination of information at both national and international levels. She further emphasized that the support reflects the excellent bilateral relations between The Gambia and the People’s Republic of China and aligns with the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to modernize its communication systems and strengthen institutional capacity. In his remarks, Mr. Zhao Shangsen conveyed the Embassy’s appreciation to the Ministry for its continued cooperation and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting The Gambia’s development efforts. He highlighted that the contribution serves as a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations and is intended to further deepen bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest. He reiterated China’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry to advance shared goals and promote sustainable development. Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary I, Ambassador Lang Yabou, and the outgoing Director of Asia and Oceanic Affairs of the Ministry, Mr. Sheikh Omar Bittaye, who participated in recognition of the importance of this partnership and the continued strengthening of bilateral ties. This unconstitutional taking over of power is an outright assault on the democratic values cherished by the people of Guinea Bissau and negatively affect the electoral process following the peaceful conduct of the Presidential and Legislative elections on 23rd November 2025. The Government of The Gambia expresses profound shock and deep concern over this attempt to overturn the will of the people. The Gambia considers this action a blatant violation of shared democratic principles and an unfortunate setback to the hard-earned progress made by the government and people of Guinea Bissau and the ECOWAS region in democracy and constitutional rule. The Gambia, therefore, calls for the immediate restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau and urges all stakeholders to remain calm, exercise maximum restraint, respect the democratic process and stand firm together for peace and unity, allowing the people’s choice and will to guide the nation’s future. Furthermore, the Government of The Gambia calls for the security and fundamental rights of all citizens and foreign nationals in Guinea Bissau, including ECOWAS Election Observers and officials be safeguarded and guaranteed. Below is the official statement of The Honorable Minister, His Excellency Mr. Sering Modou Njie, at the 7th AU–EU Summit Round Table on “Peace, Security and Governance,” held on 24th November 2025 in Luanda, Angola Your Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union Your Excellences Heads of States & Governments, Excellency Mr. António Costa, President of the European Council Excellency Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission Co-chairs Heads of delegation Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen   On behalf of His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the People of the Republic of The Gambia, I wish to express our profound gratitude to His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, as well as to the Government and the brotherly People of Angola, for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements accorded to my delegation since our arrival in this beautiful city of Luanda. It is an honour for The Gambia to participate in this important AU–EU Summit. We commend the African Union and the European Union for convening us under the timely and urgent theme: Peace, Security and Governance. We also thank the co-chairs and panelists for their valuable insights. Excellencies, Our two continents continue to face complex and interconnected challenges rising conflict dynamics, governance stresses, climate shocks, and socio-economic pressures that particularly affect our youth. These realities require an integrated approach that recognizes the inseparable link between peace, security, and good governance. For The Gambia, this theme reflects our own national journey of the past eight years a journey of democratic consolidation, institutional rebuilding, and renewed public confidence. As a country that has undergone a democratic transition, we appreciate the delicate nature of reforms and the partnerships required to sustain them. We continue to prioritize: Deepening democratic reforms and institutional strengthening; Advancing transitional         justice   and        national          reconciliation; Accelerating security sector reform; Enhancing border management and early warning systems; And investing in youth empowerment and resilience. We remain grateful for the continued support of the European Union and other partners whose cooperation has significantly contributed to our stability and progress. This Summit offers an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to peace. The recent steps toward sustainable financing for AU-led peace support operations, including through UN mechanisms, are encouraging. We urge continued AU–EU collaboration to ensure predictable support for African- owned peace initiatives. The situation in the Sahel remains a shared concern. Stability in this region is vital for The Gambia. We encourage constructive engagement, inclusive dialogue, and collective approaches that help restore trust and reinforce regional mechanisms. Excellencies, Security responses must go hand in hand with socio-economic investments. We see great value in AU–EU cooperation on youth employment, climate adaptation, local governance strengthening, and support for women’s leadership in peacebuilding. Migration, too, must be addressed cooperatively, with dignity and shared responsibility. As a committed member of ECOWAS and the African Union, The Gambia will continue to support multilateralism, preventive diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Our foreign policy remains anchored in constructive engagement and respect for international law. Africa’s peace and stability are global public goods. Our destinies are interlinked, and our partnership must remain rooted in mutual respect and shared ambition. 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐋, 𝟏𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓: The Republic of The Gambia is actively engaging in the third Intergovernmental Expert Group Meeting on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Programme of Action (POA) 2026 to 2035, which commenced today at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is expected to last until 20th November 2025. Ms. Fatou Kinneh Jobe, Permanent Secretary II of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, led the Gambian delegation, alongside other senior government officials. In her remarks, PS Jobe commended the OIC General Secretariat and Member States for developing an ambitious and comprehensive plan for the next 10 years. “The Draft Programme of Action embodies our collective hopes for peace, justice, prosperity, and solidarity throughout the Muslim Ummah,” stated PS Jobe. “It covers key issues including Palestine, peace and security, efforts to combat Islamophobia, human rights, socio-economic development, and institutional reform.” The Permanent Secretary also welcomed the POA’s focus on poverty reduction, trade, health, education, youth and women’s empowerment, and climate resilience, noting that these are crucial for a stable and prosperous Ummah. To enhance the impact and ensure the successful implementation of the POA, The Gambia proposed key recommendations: establishing transparent implementation mechanisms, strengthening support for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and improving coordination among OIC institutions. The meeting brought together experts and senior officials from OIC Member States to finalise the draft Programme of Action, which is expected to guide the OIC development agenda for the period 2026 to 2035.

Kinteh, and the Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF), led by President Kim Young-chae, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the KAF office in Seocho-gu, Seoul. The MOU was signed on the margins of the Korea-Africa Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), under the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, with a focus on capacity building, youth empowerment, trade promotion, and the enhancement of The Gambia’s digital infrastructure. The comprehensive training was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of diplomacy, strengthen their professional skills, and expose them to the fundamental principles and practices of diplomatic service. A total of thirty-four participants completed the course, which combined lectures, group projects, and a final written examination. The curriculum covered a broad range of topics, including: ▪Conceptualization and history of diplomacy ▪Practices of diplomacy in daily interactions ▪The role and structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ▪Functions of diplomatic missions and consular services ▪Diplomatic correspondence, protocol, and etiquette ▪Diplomatic immunities and privileges Public diplomacy The course was coordinated and delivered by Dr. Alieu Manjang of the Middle East Directorate, with Ms. Fatoumatta Darboe providing key administrative and logistical support. In his closing remarks, Dr. Manjang expressed profound appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Hon. Sering Modou Njie, for his unwavering support and visionary leadership. He also extended gratitude to Permanent Secretary I, Ambassador Lang Yabo, and Permanent Secretary II, Ms. Fatou Kinneh Jobe, for their continued guidance and encouragement throughout the programme. Dr. Manjang commended the participants for their dedication and professionalism, noting, “Within this group, I see future ambassadors, permanent secretaries, ministers, and even a president. Their dedication, engagement, and critical thinking skills are clear testaments of their potential.” The closing ceremony was marked by the presentation of certificates to all participants by Hon. Minister Sering Modou Njie and Permanent Secretary II, Ms. Fatou Kinneh Jobe, who both delivered messages of encouragement and appreciation to Dr. Manjang, Ms. Darboe, and all those who contributed to the success of the programme. In her remarks, PS Jobe reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to institutional development and capacity building, revealing that plans are underway to establish a Diplomatic Academy. She emphasized that the Ministry will continue investing in initiatives that empower its human resources. PS Jobe congratulated the participants for their achievement and encouraged them to remain disciplined and eager to learn, reminding them that diplomacy is a lifelong journey of service, integrity, and continuous growth. In his statement, Hon. Minister Njie congratulated the interns and junior staff for their commitment, urging them to uphold the highest standards in their future diplomatic careers. In his statement, the Hon. Minister highlighted the urgent need for renewed multilateral cooperation amid global uncertainties marked by conflicts, climate crises, and widening inequalities.
