BANJUL, 13th August 2025: On Friday, Honorable Sering Modou Njie, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, held separate meetings with His Excellency Mr. Karl Frederick Paul, United Nations Resident Coordinator in The Gambia, and Her Excellency Mrs. Carmelina Ramírez Rodríguez, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to The Gambia.
First to be received was UN Resident Coordinator Paul, who paid a courtesy call to congratulate Hon. Minister Njie on his recent appointment and to reaffirm the United Nations’ commitment to continued partnership and collaboration in advancing The Gambia’s sustainable development agenda. The two discussed ongoing UN support in areas such as governance, social protection, health, education, and climate resilience, and explored opportunities to further strengthen coordination between the UN system and the Government of The Gambia.
Minister Njie then met with Ambassador Ramírez Rodríguez, with whom he reviewed the longstanding and cordial relations between The Gambia and Cuba. The Minister expressed appreciation for Cuba’s historic cooperation in health, education, and capacity building, and reaffirmed The Gambia’s readiness to deepen bilateral ties. Both sides agreed to explore new areas of collaboration for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
Minister Njie underscored that these engagements reflect The Gambia’s strong commitment to maintaining productive diplomatic relations and working with international partners to achieve national development priorities.
