๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐: The Government of the Republic of The Gambia warmly welcomes the appointment of H.E. Ambassador Prof. Muhammadou M.O. Kah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of The Gambia to the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other International Organizations in Switzerland, as a member of the Advisory Group of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
The appointment was made by United Nations Secretary-General Antรณnio Guterres, who named Ambassador Prof. Kah among 12 distinguished new members to the Advisory Group.
Established by the UN General Assembly in 2005, the CERF Advisory Group provides strategic policy guidance to the Secretary-General through the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator on the effective, transparent and impactful use of CERF resources to respond rapidly to humanitarian crises worldwideย .
Since becoming operational in 2006, CERF has delivered over US$9.2 billion in life-saving assistance to people affected by emergencies in more than 110 countries and territories, enabling swift action in contexts ranging from conflict and displacement to climate-related disasters.
The appointment, announced in August 2025 by the United Nation ,underscores Ambassador Kahโs profound commitment to global humanitarian efforts and multilateralism. This recognition reflects international confidence in his leadership, multilateral experience and deep commitment to humanitarian solidarity, particularly in advancing the voices and priorities of developing and least developed countries within the global system.
As a seasoned diplomat and scholar with extensive experience in international governance, education, and technology policy, Ambassador Kah brings invaluable expertise to the Advisory Group, which provides strategic policy guidance to the Secretary-General on the use and impact of CERF one of the worldโs fastest and most inclusive mechanisms for delivering life-saving assistance in humanitarian crises.

In his capacity as a member of the CERF Advisory Group, Ambassador Prof. Kah participated in the UN CERF Pledging Event held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 9 December 2025, hosted by Secretary-General Antรณnio Guterres. The high-level event underscored the urgency of scaling up resources as humanitarian needs continue to outstrip available funding. At the pledging conference, 40 donors announced contributions of over US$300 million for 2026, as the United Nations issued a strong call for stepped-up commitments to sustain the worldโs principal rapid-response humanitarian fundย .
Addressing the gathering, the Secretary-General warned that humanitarian systems are under unprecedented strain, while senior UN officials emphasized that a well-resourced CERF remains indispensable to saving lives, protecting the most vulnerable especially women and girls and responding swiftly to underfunded and emerging crises across the globeย .
