๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Salimatou Jallow as Director of Asia and Oceanic Affairs, effective December 2025.
Ms. Jallow is a seasoned Gambian diplomat with over two decades of distinguished service in diplomacy, international relations, and public administration. Her appointment reflects the Government of The Gambiaโs commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with countries across Asia and the Oceania region, while advancing trade, investment, and multilateral cooperation.
Ms. Jallow joined the Civil Service in February 2004 as a Cadet Administrative Officer at the PMO. She served as Assistant Secretary at the OVP and PSC, and as First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her diplomatic career included serving as First Secretary at the Gambian Embassy in Spain from 2008 to 2013, and as Counsellor at the same mission from 2013 to 2017. Upon her recall from the Foreign Service, she served in the The Ministriesโ European Affairs Directorate as Counsellor from 2017 to December 2025.
Prior to her appointment, played a pivotal role in maintaining and expanding bilateral relations between The Gambia and European Union Member States and other European countries. She actively promoted trade and investment opportunities, engaged potential investors, and represented The Gambia at numerous national and international meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Academically, Ms. Jallow holds a Masterโs Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Escuela Diplomรกtica de Espaรฑa in Madrid and a Bachelorโs Degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the International Islamic University Malaysia. She has undertaken extensive diplomatic, migration, and international relations training across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Fluent in English, Spanish, Fula, Wolof, Mandinka, and beginner-level in Bahasa Mala. Ms. Jallow is well positioned to lead The Gambiaโs engagement with diverse partners across Asia and the Pacific.
As Director of Asia and Oceanic Affairs, Ms. Jallow will spearhead diplomatic relations, promote economic cooperation, and strengthen The Gambiaโs presence and partnerships within the Asia-Pacific region in line with the countryโs foreign policy objectives.
